DIOCESE OF NIGER DELTA NORTH MOST REV. IGNATIUS CROSBY OGBORUN KATTEY
Most Rev. Ignatius Crosby Ogborun kattey (Justice of the Peace) was born in the small Nchia Town called Alode in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State on 23rd August, 1948, to late His Royal Highness Chief Amos Kattey of blessed memory who was himself a devout Christian, church leader, produce merchant, trader, farmer and Government Recognized Second Class Traditional Ruler of Nchia Kingdom, and late Mrs. Margaret Ada Kattey.........

HISTORY

Diocese of Niger Delta North was founded in 1996 and came into being on the Ascension Day, that is, 16th. May, 1996. The Pioneer Bishop, Late Rt. Samuel Onyuku Elenwo who had served as the Bishop of the Nigeria Delta Diocese (1981-1996), was enthroned at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Diobu, Port Harcourt on the day of inauguration and remained in office till 31st. December, 1999 when he retired. He was succeeded by Rt. Rev. Ignatius Crosby Ogborun Kattey who was before the election, consecration and enthronement in June 2000, Archdeacon of Evo. The Diocese took off with Seven (7) Archdeaconries namely, Port Harcourt, Ogoni, Etche, Ahoada, Ikwere, Evo, Ikwere South, and Eleme. October 1997 there Were eleven (11) Archdeaconries one hundred and two (102) Districts/Parishes, for (4) Chapels in Rivers State University of Science & Technology, and the three Campuses of Rivers State College of Education at Rumuolumeni, St. John’s and Ndele all in Rivers State. It is on record that by the year 2004 when the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) celebrated its Silver Jubilee Anniversary, the Diocese had recorded phenomenal growth in physical and spiritual terms with the disposition of Church units as follows: Seven Archdeaconries, Seven (7) Deaneries, one hundred and twenty four (124) Districts/Parishes, six (6) Chapels, nine Diocesan Churches and thirty-eight (38) new Churches planted in all parts of the Diocese since the year 2000 (Silver Drums 25 Years of the Church of Nigeria) (Anglicn/Communion 1979-2004, p.21). However, in spite of the creation of new Dioceses namely Ahoada. Ogoni, Ekche, Ikweme, Evo the Diocese is still made up of the Cathedral, seven (7) Archdeaconries, seven (7) Deaneries and one hundred and two (102) Districts and Parishes. This disposition does not include the largest proportion of the sixty (60) new Churches planted during the first five years of Bishop Kattey’s administration. The work, History of the First Ten Year of Diocese of Nigeria Delta North (1996-2006), is a publication in which a total of twenty three (23) authors have made contributions in various aspects of growth and expantion during the period of survey. The team is made up of high caliber persons within the Diocesan circles.
